Education Programs

The typical education needed for entry into this field is an Associate's Degree which takes on average two years to complete. Sonography training programs can be found in hospitals, vocational-technical institutions, colleges and universities, or the armed forces. A Bachelor's Degree can also pursued which takes four years to complete but the two year Assoc. Degree is the most prevalent.

One-year programs are only recommended for those already working in the healthcare industry that wish to increase their marketability by training in sonography.

Some training programs prefer candidates with a background in science or experience in other healthcare professions, whilst others may consider high school graduates with courses in maths and science.
